In 1992, for a reason unknown, I called my mom and asked her to mail me all the blue, green and pink
fabric scraps from the family scrap collection. My then housemate, artist Mary Linnea Vaughan, came
home to find me sorting fabric on the living room floor.
“No, no, no,” she said, looking at the pile of rejects I had set aside. “If you want to see the blue,
you need to put in the earth tones. Otherwise there won’t be any contrast and you won’t see the blue at
all.” My first (and in fact, only) lesson in fabric combination.
Without so much as a straight edge or a rotary cutter, I started to construct my first quilt. Luckily,
the mother of one of my violin students, a professional quilter herself, took pity on me and taught me
how to do a proper binding. She also bought me my first quilt book and provided valuable feedback on my
next few feeble projects.
A career change, relocation, wedding, new corporation, serious illness, new house and sabbatical later, Quilted
Dimensions was formed.
When not quilting, spending time with my family and friends, reading, writing or participating in a dizzying array
of watersports, I work with corporations to help make the critical link between goals, strategy and
real work. Here's my professional consulting bio:
